I’ve spent the last year building The Tech Bros (TTB), the world’s first all-female, all-technical accelerator programme. Ultimately, what TTB is at its core is a community of incredible technical women, all interested in entrepreneurship. What surprised me, though, is how much this theme of community shows up everywhere in my life once I started paying attention to it.
I often say to people that I love attending music events. I love a good DJ set (the kind where the sun is shining, the bass is humming through the ground & everyone around me is full of joy); but I’ve realised what I actually love is the energy of being surrounded by people who have showed up for the same reason. Everyone’s dancing and existing in this little bubble of a shared experience. What this represents to me is a community in its simplest & purest form.
What I’ve come to realise is that nothing meaningful is ever a solo effort (whether that’s success in your degree, career or your own general happiness). We always need people around us who push us and support us; those who mould us into the person we are becoming. I really think that that’s one of the most beautiful parts of being human. The fact that we get to learn from each other, that we get to rely on each other and that we get to move through life side-by-side.
So, in everything I do, I strive to build community along the way. To be someone who helps others, or connects people to others who can help, or to be someone who creates a space where others feel seen. I want people to feel alive and energised in my presence and in the circles I create.
